Moms of the Year
Annelie Russell
Nominated by Nicole MercerWhen I started thinking about what to write about my mother to show the world how wonderful she is, many things came to mind. Her love, care, selflessness, and so much more. One thing I'll always be thankful to my mother for, that I try to show every Mother's Day, is her determination to help her children in life. She showed my siblings and I the values that we needed to be good people. When I think of my mother, I think of the quote: "Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible."
Barbara Abbott
Nominated by Alli AbbottThere isn't such a thing as a "perfect mom." Some neglect their kids to death and others spoil theirs. I take for granted that mine will drive me across town fifteen times a day, and that night she'll have my whole group over to crowd around my TV. She probably picked the movie and my friends usually invite her to watch it with us. When it's over, she'll drive them home. She makes sure I recycle, will listen to me sing for hours in the car, and wakes up before me every day. My mom's not perfect, but she's mine.
Camille Ysebrands
Nominated by Isabella YsebrandsHonestly, my mother and I have never gotten along, nor agreed on anything. However, looking back, she is the only one that has truly helped me achieve my highest potential. Through harsh battles, she has taught me to fight for and achieve my desires. Our many debates have opened my eyes to realize my personal beliefs, and where I want to stand in this society. She is preparing me for the cruel struggles I will face as an adult. Although I can rarely stand being around her, at the end of the day, I love my mom more than anything.
Carolyn Terry
Nominated by Melissa Terry"A man's work is from sun to sun, but a mother's work is never done." Everyone has a mother; they are the ones who are there for their child from the beginning. They were the ones who watched their little baby go from asking silly questions about everything in sight, to questions about the latest crush. A mother is never too tired, or too busy for a quick bedtime story; they always make time. They are the ones to go to when a little extra change for the movies is needed. They are there for everything.
Christine Estrada
Nominated by Courtney DeSotoChristine is the mother of 3 girls, with ages ranging from high school to kindergarten. She works full-time with the Superior Court yet has managed to complete a 2nd Bachelor's Degree and still volunteers at her children's school and manages/participates in their day to day activities. AND she plans to pursue a Master's Degree in the Fall. She is the most dedicated and hard-working mother I know.
Christine Wallace
Nominated by Morgan WallaceI am nominating my mom for the Mom of the Year award, because she works five days a week and works all day. Sometimes she works on the weekends. My dad doesn't work and is looking for a job. When my mom comes home from work at 7:00, 8:00, or 9:00pm she will clean the big mess in the house and cook a yummy dinner. I love my mom very much and I do hope she wins the "Mom of the Year award" because she is the best mom in the world. She works hard and comes home tired but still works hard to cook and clean for my family. My dad also cooks and cleans when my mom is really tired. My whole family pitches in but my mom does mostly of everything and still is in a happy mood. My mom is always at work on time she wakes up at 5:00 pm. She is so dedicated to her work and on the weekends she is not working she will take me and my sister to the mall. My mom really works hard and I love her so much. That is why I think my mom should be " Mom of the Year."♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Connie Verkaik
Nominated by Patricia SpalingerShe is selfless, always willing to help, goes the extra mile at work & home. Puts others first, even though her kids are grown she still helps us with things we need. She always willing to help with the grandkids even when she is exhausted. She gets up early & goes to bed late, rarely does things for herself, she is constantly putting her needs aside for my sisters, my dads, my husbands, my kids and my needs. She goes without so that we can have what need. She always there, 24/7 to listen to us, to give us advice, to be that shoulder to cry on. Her heart is a heart of giving and rarely does she ask for things in return and often over looks not getting that thank you or please.
Debbie Dalee
Nominated by Dustin DaleeI am blessed with having the gift of a stay at home mom. This allows more time with my mom so that I can connect with her in the afternoon. I am thankful that she can pick me up from school every day and take me to golf practice, instead of taking the bus. Her organic cooking every night is delicious. After dinner she helps me study for an upcoming test. Most importantly, my mom is always there for me whenever I need to talk. She deserves this award because she always sees the good in any situation.
Erika Zamora
Nominated by Ruth CavalettoErika's son, Jeffrey, was 18 mos. old when he was diagnosed with AML. He was diagnosed in May '07, he spent 31 days in the hospital and she stayed with him those 31 days leaving only in the mornings to go home and shower then be right back. The next 8 months were a series of 6 rounds of chemo treatments, bone marrow asperations, countless drug administrations...Jeffrey went to heaven on January 18, 2008. This week she is planning a funeral for her baby. This woman deserves a trophy! I could write a book but not in 100 words.
Fionnuala Kraus
Nominated by Dillon KrausThe Strength to Move On She woke up early this morning to pick up the phone. Her mom in Ireland had been sick for the past couple of months, having been re-diagnosed with cancer. She picked up the phone, trying not to fear the worst. Seeing as she was the type of mother who got up early to get everything done before everyone else woke up, she was wide awake instantly. She answered the phone and grimaced, but, taking a deep breath, wiped her eyes and went to wake me up to give me the news. She always has the strength a mother needs.
Heike Kilian
Nominated by Rachel Venturino My mother spends more of her time worrying about me and my older brother than anything else in her life. She carries the weight of our problems and insecurities on her shoulders, lessening the loads on ours. As well as being caring and supportive, I can trust my mom with anything I tell her. At times I find myself in situations when all I need is someone that will listen without judgment. No one else, not even my closest friends can take my mom's place as being the best person to go to at a time like this. Even though she nags us at times, I know my mom has nothing but good intentions for the wellbeing of me and my brother. She displays this each and everyday with her simply acts of selflessness.
Jana Hey-Shipton
Nominated by Rachel Hey-ShiptonTechnically, being a mom is delivering a child. Although to actually become the mother figure takes much more effort. She must be devoted to the child and set an example for the child that he or she can aspire to be. My mom is this example for me, and although she may not be glamorous, she does all the she can to make myself, and two other daughters happy. She continues to put in so much effort to help her children grow and succeed, this recognition suits her.
Jeanne Iverson
Nominated by Sydney IversonIf someone were to ask me to truly describe my mom I would need much more than a hundred words to describe her. Recently, my mom gave birth to a two and half month premature baby girl named Gracie. She spent six long, stressful months by Gracie's side in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in Los Angeles, driving down every day, and my mom came through it all fighting hard and staying strong. My mom is such a respectable person, she deserves to be queen of the world. I lover her with all my heart and more, and I someday want to grow up to be just like her.
Jen
Nominated by Tony JWho else can put up with the things that I do? Only my parents! But in particular, my mom. She is the one who constantly nags me about my room and about everything I do. But I know that she only means good. That is why I love her.
Jennifer Leggitt
Nominated by Brittany LeggittI think my mom should be nominated because she supports three kid by herself, and without any help from anyone. She works over 40 hrs. a week, also doing work at home after work. Although we don't get everything in the world that we want we still know she tries her best to make us happy. She uses her extra money to make us happy not buying things for herself. She is the most loving mother a daughter could ever have. I am so happy to call her my mother. We can always count on her to be there for us.
Joanne Nemiroff
Nominated by DaughterWe've been through it all, but I finally can call her my best friend. The past two years I have seen her in a different light. My mother, Joanne, a woman of grace, beauty, kindness, I now look at her in awe.
I am currently recovering from an eating disorder, after being treated inpatient. Finishing school in Atlanta while my parents were in Florida, I was struggling to "survive" on my own.
Times were rough and I'd call my mother crying in pain, wanting to leave the misery and come home. But being my mother, believing in me and my capabilities, she took two months off of work and came to live in Atlanta. She got an apartment, left her job, and got me through school and graduation. She truly saved me.
Her kind heart extends beyond her personal life and into her career. With her Phd, my mother has dedicated her life to improving the lives of America's youth as a school psychologist in the public educational system. In a world so focused on material wealth, I am fortunate to have a mother, who sought to make a difference no matter the cost. Her own career choice has inspired me to pursue my passion as a NYC public school teacher, and I have never been happier.
I used to focus on the negatives, and forgot about one extraordinary woman. If I could be just like my mom, I'd be truly honored.
Julie Hirsch
Nominated by Jillian HirschMy mom is more than just my mom, but my best friend. She is always there for me to talk to and to laugh with. Every day when we get home we just sit in the car and laugh and talk about the day. If I had a bad day at school, she would have hot chocolate waiting for me when I got home. She always knows when I just need my space or if I need a shoulder to cry on. I only hope that when I become a mom, I can be as wonderful.
Kathryn McDaniel
Nominated by Hannah McDanielImagine a coach living at your home, a teacher teaching you all day, and the finest qualities in a best friend. Together you have my mother. Throughout the day my mother encourages, and pushes her children to new limits. She heartens us to love and have passion for everything we do. My mother does everything from editing essays to teaching valuable lessons. Listening and giving advice on the simplest of life's troubles or momentous obstacles is another of my mother's superlative qualities. No matter what I do or where I am, the best mother there is will always love me.
Katina Etsell
Nominated by John EtsellKatina Etsell, my affectionate mother, fully deserves the honor of being named parent of the year. She is kind to all, modest, and best of all, true to herself. She has been through many hardships, which she gracefully overcame. She has fought through two divorces, and family deaths, without a visible scar. She tends to me and my sister with full energy every day. She cooks three meals per day, does laundry, cleans the house, and even helps with homework. And as if this is not enough, she volunteers tirelessly for Cottage Hospital and the Visiting Nurses Association.
Kristen Rohm
Nominated by Ellen GleasonSelfless. Loving. Wonderful. These words, and more, all describe my mom. Through the years she has always been there for me when I needed her the most, and she takes time out of her busy life to be my confidant and best friend. My mother deserves this award, because she doesn't reward herself often enough for all the wonderful things she does for those around her, and for putting others first, instead of herself.
Kristina Benchek
Nominated by Noah BenchekMy mom's name is Kristina Nalani Benchek. She should be mom of the year because she is very caring. She also plays with us when my dad is gone for a week at work. She takes us to fun places. She loves to shop. She makes sure we have sunscreen on when we go to the beach. She takes me to the store to buy stuff. She takes us to the movies, and on bikes. She loves flowers, me and my brother and my dad. She loves our family. This is why my mom should be mom of the year.

Laurie Goodner
Nominated by Hailey GoodnerM is for mom of 4- a big undertaking. O is for how observant my mom is. She watches carefully to see how we need to be nurtured. T stands for trouble, which goes hand in hand with punishment, reluctantly given out, only to benefit our own good. H represents humor, a staple in our house welcomed wholeheartedly, and used as an ally by our mom. E begins everyone my mom takes care of, and finally R. Respect, something taught from birth, and given since birth. As you can see, my mother is the best. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!
Lindsay Hernandez
Nominated by Caleigh HernandezMy mother is a colossal ingredient to my recipe for a fortunate life. Stereotypical mothers are arduous enough having laundry washed, lunches made, the list prolongs. My mother can do that and more. In addition to performing the tasks previously mentioned, she is constantly pushing me to do my best, but she knows exactly when to let me take over. An advocate of everything I do, she will drive me an hour each way allowing me the opportunity to horseback ride with an amazing trainer; she doesn't only facilitate my dreams, she makes them a reality. A best friend.
Lori Ann David
Nominated by Philip DavidA teacher when I have questions, a healer when I am sick, a brain when my wit needs challenging, and a bearer of open arms when my emotions need escape - these traits define the graceful, caring, and thoughtful mother of whom I am lucky to be a son. Not only does my mother provide countless opportunities to explore and understand the world around me, but she does so with a genuine care, love, and interest in her appreciative teenage son. One hundred words limits the countless amazing and impressive adjectives I could assign to such an amazing woman.
Maria Aksenov
Nominated by Anya AksenovIt seems as though my mom can do everything. She does everything in her power in order to make something better for others. She does so much for my dad, sister, myself and our family, constantly putting others first. I would have to write a fifty-page essay just to list a few of the things that she does for us. I cannot put into text how much I love her and how grateful I am for everything that she does. She is one of the most extraordinary people I have ever known and probably will ever know.
Mary Moore
Nominated by Riley MooreWhen we think of moms, most of us think of stay at home moms that clean house all day long. If my mom were to do that, our house and family would not survive. My mom attended USC and earned a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy. Our dad works full time so that she can work part time and spend time with her five teenagers. When I think about my mom I think of a warrior, battling every day against the world to put food on the table for herself and her family. Thank you mom for touching the lives of many people and making life tangible.
Megan Pritchard
Nominated by Emma Redickgiving me love being a baby and looking above seeing my mother's smiling face she taught me everything from that day speaking mushy words expressing my feelings, identifying birds her love taught me to see how lucky a little girl can be almost a teen actually eleven I see her differently than when I was seven a role model, a guardian a real friend that's there until the end I'm thirteen, I want to be like her caring, silly, daring people say that we look like each other, on the inside is where I want to look like my mother
Micheline Hughes
Nominated by Chloe Germaine HughesUnfortunately, kids can't choose their families. Throughout all of the harassment I endure from my grandmother, uncle, father, everyone -- my mother is the only person I can actually talk to. On occasions where I want to escape as far away from the rest of my family as I can, I realize she has the opportunity to. I am bound to my family by age. Her legal binds can be altered, but she still wakes up to the things I can't handle and welcomes them into her life. She teaches me acceptance, that to love someone, you must love their faults as well.
Michelle Brenner
Nominated by Paige BrennerMichelle Brenner, my mother, is the strongest person I know. Though many challenges come her way, she takes them in stride. My mother has dealt with health complications that have taken her to the hospital many times. Still, she manages to be an amazing mom. Whether it is baking brownies for school or editing a paper, she is always there with her loving support. I have immense gratitude for the hard work my mother puts into my life and also the lives of others. I would love if she were to receive an award for all of her efforts!
Nancy Behlman
Nominated by Robbie BehlmanMagnificent Mother In my life, there is a woman who I know will always be there for me. This woman cares for me, and will go out of her way to assist me. This woman gives slack to my leash, but knows when to pull it tight. This woman never gives me harsh, unreasonable punishments that I do not truly deserve. Although because of how this woman has raised me, I rarely if not never do anything harmful. This woman feeds my hungry mouth with delicious, healthy meals that always make me full. This woman is my mother, and I love her.
Nancy Nickerson Wood
Nominated by Kristen WoodWINNER My mother deserves the mom of the year every year, because she is the most devoted mother there is. She showers me love and adoration that every passer by notices. She always puts her family before herself. She puts so much love into everything she does starting with when I was a baby she never once bought baby food, everything was made from scratch; my packed lunches always had fun shaped cut-out sandwiches; she was everything from my brownie troop leader to carpool chair; always volunteered for school activities and field trips, read to me every night until I was in high school, and always made sure I was kept busy with fun extra-curricular activities. On top of it all, she is far more than just a mother to me, she is a phenomenal history teacher with hundreds of teenage "kids" every year that she treats as if they were her own. All of her students love her nurturing and loving character. To know my mother is a gift for anyone, but for me is the most amazing treasure there is to be found.
Nancy Ransohoff
Nominated by Amy RansohoffMy loving mother has attended all of my piano recitals; her support for every activity I attempt is unceasing, and her devotion to her family is truly impressive. However, my mom is not a typical "stay-at-home mom." Not only does my mother display unfathomable loyalty to her family, but she also works from home as a writer, which is one of her passions in life. For a mother to care as my mother does, and to pursue something she loves, is not an easy task. However, my mother does this willingly, and that is an admirable act.
Pia Tsuruda
Nominated by Liz Zell(Hollister) Pia Tsuruda is a 3rd grade teacher at Hollister Elementary School. Rebecca Sweeney
Nominated by Shannon SweeneyOmniscient Throughout my life, my mother gives me reason to live. Between doleful and malevolent times, she tries her hardest to remain auspicious. Among her job and social life, she devotes the majority of her time driving my brother and me around town, to soccer tournaments, and piano lessons, but still concludes she is inadequate. As we take her deeds for granted, I realize just how blessed I am. With a roof over my head, water and food at my disposal, and parents who care about and acknowledge my being; I live ideally and beautifully, through them and with them.
Rosaura Lopez
Nominated by Lara SistersMy mom is truly admirable and one of the hardest workers I know. Always loving and caring. Thinking of others before herself. My mother is humble and has taught me how to be a grounded person. She has taught me to be thankful no matter how little we have. She brought up three girls in SB and that?s no easy task being a single mom. Eight years ago the loss of my sister Anita put her through a tough time. Not only was she strong but she keeps moving forward appreciating what life has given her. Her daughters and her grandchildren are her life and she shows us unconditional love everyday.
Sharon Major
Nominated by Graham BrownThis Mother's Day, I am taken back to an elementary school memory. Spring sing... new shoes... so excited... Center stage, hand in hand, a perfect circle... singing I believe... Faster and faster we spin, me in my new shoes, air in my hair, time of my life and then, feet that had been there before mysteriously are there no longer... I go down. What to do... Cry? Run for the door? Mom? Where's mom? There she is. Eyes on mom. No words spoken. Just the unspoken. "Be strong, shake it off, and get up." Always there, the extremely strong inner voice encouraging me to be a better me. Mom, still here today as I step out in my new, slightly older, more mature shoes.
Shawn Hodges
Nominated by Elysia HodgesTo describe how wonderful my mom is, is like describing what water tastes like, and that's impossible. My mom was pregnant for 36 months, my mom gave birth four times, and my mom raised four daughters. In my eyes my mom is the most hard-working, determined, and loving woman that I know. She takes my sisters and I wherever we need to be, she goes to all our performances, games, and meets, she loves us incessantly, and on top of all that she has a full time job. To say my mom is mother of the year, is an understatement.
Shelly Ochi
Nominated by Jonathan OchiA mother is someone with whom you can converse, have fun, joke, confide in, and ask for assistance. My mom does all of this and more for all three kids in my family. We can all easily joke with her and she helps us with any problem. She always encourages us to get good grades and to be kind towards everyone, even if they aren't nice in return. She's fun to be around and we always know that she always loves us because she asks about what happens every day and always has time for us in her schedule.
Terri Lynn Cook
Nominated by Steve CookTerri is a tireless, faithful mom to her son Ian. If it can be said that a woman's work is never done, one could also say Terri's exhaustive efforts to be a good steward of all the resources available to her often begin after others have gone to bed. Her love for others, her commitment to her family is a treasure to behold, always putting herself last and others first.
Terry Harris
Nominated by Eli HarrisMy mother, Terry Harris, is clearly entitled to and deserves the Mom of the Year award. The denotation for love is an intense feeling of tender affection and compassion. These words hardly describe my mother's contagious aura. Her unbridled passion and concern for the well being of her family is paramount among all mothers. Dedication is an understatement in describing her commitment and contribution to family members. My mom is the glue that keeps our family dynamics healthy and intact. In addition, her unconditional support for family members in every choice they make illustrates her true character.
Tracy Conway
Nominated by Carrie HaffnerWINNER Tracy Conway should be nominated for "Mom of the Year." Not only is she an amazing mother to her daughter Crystal, but she is now providing a foster home to two very small children. Tracy fills in as "Mom" to many other children. It is rare that she doesn't have a car full of kids. She is always providing care for children whose parents work, or are just overwhelmed with their own schedules. The Conway home is one of great joy and respect. There is always room for one more child to come and play and stay for dinner!
Vicki Ehlen
Nominated by Heather EhlenMy mom is probably the strongest, most amazing person I have ever met. Over the past year, my mom has had to take care of her own mother single-handedly, sell her mother's condo, search and organize everything in her mothers house, all while coping with the recent death of her father. All the way, she has not given up, and she has stuck by her tasks, even though she took on three times the normal load, barely getting any time for herself. I can honestly say, that I don't know anyone who deserves this like she does.
Yolanda Lara
Nominated by Saul ZevadaSubtle and with a beauty that can stop time, Yoli's humble heart creates a smile that perpetuates joy and the energy to live every moment passionately. This single mother defies the concepts of time and resources. In a cozy apartment and of low-income, 8 yr. old Cristian and 4 yr. old Nina LOVE their palace! They appreciate their lives of privilege and royalty. Their queen, and Mommy, Yoli excels in household and professional responsibilities to be a provider. Because time does not exist, Yoli is always excited for games, reading books, doing homework, cooking together, weekend getaways and endless hugs and kisses. Love, affection and attention give a child a life of hope. Cristian and Nina are the most special thing in Yoli's life. With Yoli they will always feel loved and alive!
Yolanda Lara_

My favorite food is pizza and soup. Yolanda makes things fair. She is just a good person to be around. My favorite thing about her is she is really nice and she is someone to count on. I love my mom very much and she loves me too!
julie ehrnstein
Nominated by lylah ehrnsteinIt is hard to explain why my mom should be nominated. But I do have a story and I want to tell you about it. here it goes. Last night my little brother got hurt and I wanted some attention but my bro got it all because my mom was making dinner. so I made the best of it and did spelling. I got mad and screamed and my mom asked me what was wrong I said I don't know i'm just mad. She said "I think I know what's wrong. Do you want to know what I think? I said yes. "Please don't scream at me if I'm wrong" she said. she said that she thought I wanted attention. she was right like always. it felt good that my mom understood me so well. I HAVE THE BEST MOM IN THE WORLD

Coaches of the Year
Aaron Martin
Nominated by Jamie SteidlAaron coaches not only all the 8-14 year old kids but also all the parents who coach the individual teams within the Goleta chapter of the US Youth Volleyball League (USYVL). Aaron is patient with all of us (kids and parents), and keeps us all focused on having fun, without the pressure of winning. In this day and age where competition sometimes can get out of hand, it's refreshing to find a coach who can teach kids a love of sport without that pressure.
Aaron Martinez
Nominated by Patty AppelAaron Martinez heads up the
youth sports programs at the Santa Barbara YMCA. He is encouraging and positive in his instruction. He makes it a point to get to know every child and family and make them feel welcome and excited about whatever they participate in. He is fantastic!
Bill Wagner
Nominated by Brent McQueenWINNER Bill was the best coach that I have ever seen. He not only taught the skills of the game to the kids "AYSO soccer", but he encouraged them to test themselves as individuals and as a team. He was also very well organized and gave up massive amounts of time, for our kids!
Bill Wagner_
Nominated by Darla OrlichMy daughter had the good fortune to be selected for Bill Wagner's
AYSO Soccer team last summer. Bill was a softball coach, but AYSO needed coaches, so he stepped up. That's who he is. His commitment and dedication to these girls became evident immediately. The girls, in turn, worked hard for him. They all learned new skills and grew as a real TEAM. It was truly AMAZING! As the season progressed, we could see we had something special. Not only a winning team, but a family of girls that truly respected one another. Bill is the coach that encourages the girls to give their best, and he's also the coach that lets them play in the mud after a well earned rainy day victory. He takes advantage of "teaching moments", knowing that once they are gone, you have lost an opportunity. As a volunteer coach, Bill continued to coach the team from August through April. It was quite a commitment, and he took them all the way to the State Championships, where they took 3rd place. On top of this, he is also the
president and a coach of the Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association. If anyone is deserving of Coach of the Year, Bill Wagner and his full heart has earned this award many times over.
Bill Wagner__
Nominated by Beth WagnerI've had the pleasure in the last many years of watching my son coach and manager his daughters' in both soccer and softball. This year his soccer team ranked 3rd in the State, he manages his daughter's softball team, and he's President of the Goleta Valley Girls' Softball Association! He devotes hours and hours to this volunteer work, and he's an outstanding coach and parent.
Bill Wagner___
Nominated by Bill Wagner, Sr.I nominate Bill Wagner for Coach of the Year to recognize his dedication, instructional skill, and energy. Not only does he support and encourage the players on his own team, but also those of the opposing teams. He has repeatedly helped good players become great, and rookies and wallflowers become potential stars. You'll find that both players and parents will agree that he is a very positive influence. During my many years with the Dos Pueblos Little League organization, I've seen a few exceptional coaches, and I'd have to say that Bill is right there among this group. By the way, Bill is my son and I'm very proud of his accomplishments!
Bill Wagner____
Nominated by Edilene JanottiGreat coach. Make all girls work hard and find their best. No one is allowed to get behind, everyone had the same change and should put enough effort to do their job.He found their weakness and work it out until they become strong. There is no favorite player, there is a team! Everyone had a job and everyone had to do your part so as a team they could complement each other. He was the eyes and guidance for those 9 and later 8 girls of Bubblicious that got 3rd place at California Cup this season. Way to go!!! I am so happy that my daughter had the opportunity to be is this team. Congratulations.
Bill Wagner_____
Nominated by Janet DouglasMy daughter has been fortunate to have some great coaches while playing basketball, soccer or softball, but one coach truly stands out among them - Bill Wagner. My daughter was assigned to Bill's AYSO U10 girls soccer team in Aug. He was organized, knowledgeable and very friendly. The girls on the team ranged from novices who knew very little about soccer to girls with 4-5 years experience who had amazing skills. Bill turned this eclectic group into a unified team with each girl playing an important role. He carefully pointed out each girl's strengths, and encouraged each to reach her full potential. He taught them new skills and raised their level of play immensely, while still making their soccer experience fun. As the girls defeated team after team on their way to becoming the third place team in California, Bill always stressed good sportsmanship. My daughter's 8 month experience with Bill has been amazing. We think Bill Wagner is amazing, too, and he deserves to be Coach of the Year.
Bill Wagner______
Nominated by Roxanne GregsonI am the mother of "4" and have experienced many Coaches over the years. I have never met any Coach with the caliber or character of Coach Bill. He coaches with integrity, kindness, and an unsurpassed knowledge of the game. He teaches sportsmanship above all else. He took an average group of girls and created a bond of friendship that will stick with them beyond their 3rd Place State Medal. It would be a well deserved honor for him to receive Coach of the Year, however, he has already won in the eyes of my Family.
Bill Wagner________
Nominated by Gina WagnerI believe my husband Bill Wagner is well deserving of this award because he is a great
soccer coach of two soccer teams, a softball coach, and he is also the
President of Goleta Girls Valley Softball Association, and somehow, yes, he has a full-time job. He is very positive with the girls he coaches and loves inspiring others. The team named Bubblicious, which my husband coaches and my daughter Siena, who is eight plays on has made it the California Cup for AYSO here in Goleta, and are playing in Bakersfield this weekend for soccer. I feel my husband has played a huge role in team building and confidence to have come this far. Only four teams in the whole state of California our invited to California Cup. If they win this, they will play for National's in Hawaii!!! I am so proud of my husband for all his hard work and dedicated time to sports and to his family. He is not only an amazing coach, he is an amazing father and husband. I hope my husband gets this award, he deserves it!!!!!!!!
Billy Gallagher
Nominated by Mikah DusetteBilly Gallagher is the asst.
director of coaching for the Sta. Barbara Soccer Club. He has had the dubious honor of coaching the boys U8 Development Team. This has been no easy task, taking young boys from ages 5-8 and molding them into a soccer team. He works these kids with drills, humor, and praise. He keeps them non-stop busy, exhausted and still striving to be faster and improve! I love it! But most importantly, my son Noah loves it! Thanks Billy!
Bret Biegert
Nominated by Steve KeithleyBret is a gentle, encouraging and extremely kind baseball coach for young kids. He loves baseball and shares his love of the game in such a patient way that his team thoroughly enjoys the learning process with a healthy attitude toward competition. Bret knows what is developmentally appropriate for the kids he coaches, and remains positive win or lose. I'm not sure if this is his motto, but he coaches as if it were: "winning the game isn't everything, but loving the game is."
Floyd Holmes
Nominated by Jill CrangCoach of the Year should go to Floyd Holmes of the Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association, Tornadoes Team U10. Floyd is a quiet, but effective, gentle yet firm coach who masterfully communicates calmness while bringing out each players confidence. He dedicates his attention to his players and focuses on learning by doing, as witnessed time and again by parents and bystanders. Guidance, not directives is seen in his constant demeanor and nothing can be more important to teaching young kids sportsmanship, learning and following a set of rules, and self-challenge than the example set by a true coach like Floyd.
Jay Borgeson
Nominated by Alison CarlsonJay has coached our son Matthew for 2 years now in basketball. He is a terrific coach and friend. He truly believes in the kids and what they can achieve. Matthew has grown to love the sport mainly due to Jay. He is an enthusiastic, giving, patient and positive person. Thank you Jay!
Jay Borgeson_
Nominated by Andrea HodosyJay has demonstrated commitment and loyalty to a group of boys through coaching their basketball team for the past couple of years. He has been a great role model to them More, importantly, however, is his obvious devotion and passion for the development of character of "his boys". He is constantly encouraging and supportive of them even after the season is over.
Lawrence Stehmeier
Nominated by Austin ChampionWINNER Coach Stehmeier is the head
Cross-Country coach at San Marcos High School, and also a Geometry teacher too. His coaching techniques make the team one of the best in the league. Every time we run, he gives each of us personal tips on how we can improve, and do our best each time we race; personal records are mostly what he cares about. At every meet, Coach Stehmeier is there, cheering us on; and after every meet, he congratulates us each of us. He definitely earned it.
Mark Delgadillo
Nominated by Sydney CarlsonCoach Mark was such a fun coach! It was my first soccer season and he made it really great. I hope he can coach me again!
Misi
Nominated by Jorge FloresWhen you think of coaches you think at a screaming adult with a whistle, I know I do. However I have so much respect for my coach then you would think. My swim coach pushed me do to much more than I thought I could ever accomplish. Through all that screaming and critiquing I got better, better than I ever thought I could do. She helped me drop time from my freestyle stroke and swim all the strokes legally. As she said, "I never thought a kid that swam with his head up for freestyle would ever accomplish so much."
Rob Gibson
Nominated by Ashley & Whitney UCSB Junior Lifeguards is the coolest program and it is because of Rob who is in charge. He is the nicest coach even though he can be tough on us. He has taught us to try our hardest and we got so much stronger and faster last year doing camp because he encouraged us. It even helped us with our school PE this year. He really cares a lot and makes Junior Guards fun.
Sara Lougee
Nominated by Jennifer BestSara, a coach with the Santa Maria Swim Club, is a FANTASTIC coach of the younger set. Through positive energy, encouragement (and distraction) she keeps the kids interested, involved and excited about swimming. Sara is why our kids are swimming with SMSC.
Scott Lisea
Nominated by Kathy BarbiniScott is a positive, encouraging
Pony League coach, whether the kid is a great baseball player is not his focus, or whether the team wins. It's about doing their best, having fun, and yet learning some awesome skills. He's personally given my son some great tips for hitting the ball, even though he still strikes out most of the time, he doesn't feel like he's a "bad player", because Scott makes him just feel like he's a part of the team and great just the way he is.
Steve Enrico
Nominated by Matthew and Hayden CarlsonCoach Steve has coached us both for years in AYSO soccer. He is enthusiastic and really believes in our abilites for soccer. We love this sport because Coach Steve has taught us so much. We love AYSO soccer season. Thank you coach for your positiveness and support. You are the best!
Teddy Warrecker
Nominated by Taryn WarreckerWINNER Teddy Warrecker is the
Head Baseball Coach at Santa Barbara City College. Many would think that College age kids aren't in need of much influence, but it is quite opposite. Many of these young men are far from home, very young and in great need of a positive role model. He leads by example and has only one vice...baseball caps! Teddy recently created "SBCC Baseball Reads" where players (in uniform) go to elementary classes and read to the kids. He's a gem of the community and my heart.
Tim Robinson
Nominated by Indra StrongWINNER Fencing coach Tim (
Presidio Fencing Club) has been the best mentor AND coach for my 10 year old son that I could possibly imagine- teaching him (and a whole bunch of other people!) excellence in everything - sports, manners, life. Asking the best from his students and giving the best to his students Tim is an outstanding coach and a great influence in my child's life- providing a safe, positive, kind, nurturing and yet beautifully challenging place for all his fencers (small and big, young and old) to thrive and be the best they can be.
Tyrone Maho
Nominated by Dan Brennan2-4-6-8 who do we appreciate - Coach Tyrone! Coach Tyrone has done an amazing job as a busy father of four and as a
soccer dad/coach. In two seasons he has mastered the art of coaching soccer and has inspired dozens of boys and girls with his enthusiasm and big heart. We love Coach!
United Studios of Self Defense - STAFF
Nominated by Lori CappelloThe staff (or Senseis as they are called) at United Studios of Self Defense deserve recognition for their amazing abilities in teaching young children self control. I signed my two boys, now ages 5 & 7, up for karate lessons last summer after my husband, who is a black belt, purchased a package at our school auction. I was a little skeptical about karate for children so young but I am in awe of what the senseis have taught my children in patience, self-control, respect and confidence. The senseis are very strict with discipline and honoring traditions in the studio but at the same time, they are probably the funniest group of people under one roof. My boys love their lessons which are a perfect balance of laughter and seriousness. I see that what they have learned in karate has helped them sit still in school, concentrate and focus at whatever they are doing and gain co-ordination for other sports.
United Studios of Self Defense - Will Silliker
Nominated by Ann RasmussenWill (of United Studios of Self Defense) is an awesome karate instructor/coach. He is a fun and respectful coach. All the children love him.
Dads of the Year
Brandon Beaudette
Nominated by Shannon BeaudetteBrandon is a selfless dad and husband! While I spent this last year going back to school and earning my teaching credential, Brandon has taken on ALL household responsibilities. These include homework, dinner, bath, and bedtime every single night! He has done it without complaint, with much humor and love, and while still working full-time for the city. My family is so blessed to have him in our lives!!
Brent Wallace
Nominated by Morgan WallaceI am nominating my dad because he stays all day at home taking care of everything that needs to be taken care of. He takes care of bills he has to pay, he does laundry, he cleans up the garage, and also cooks when my mom gets really tired. He even cleans all day. Finally when everyone is asleep he will get a little bit of time to watch his shows on TV. I really love my dad because he is very understanding and he is a great man and father. I really hope my dad gets "Dad of the Year" because he is the best dad in the world. That is why he should get the "Dad of the Year." Please pick my dad!!!!♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Brian Vandermoon
Nominated by Taylor VandermoonI believe my husband should be nominated as the dad of the year. After I had our son in October, he quit his job to take care of Gavin. He has been able to successfully work from home, he started a new business, and take care of our son. It is very important to us that Gavin is not in day care until the age of 2. And because of Brian, it is possible. He is a wonderful dad and husband.
Charles M. Oxton
Nominated by J'Aimee OxtonWINNER My dad is my knight in shining armor. He is EVERYTHING a dad is supposed to be-kind, loving, honorable, responsible, dependable, generous & the strongest man I know. He has shown me by example how a real man should be & taught me to set the bar high! He is the first person I think to turn to when I need a shoulder to cry on and never lets me down. He is admirable in the way he conducts himself personally & professionally. He is the ultimate patriarch & NEVER seeks recognition for consistently showing everyone around him what a real man & father should be. He taught me by example that your word, your reputation, your name, is EVERYTHING and if you ever compromise that, then you have nothing. My face lights up at the thought of how proud I am to be able to call such an amazing man my father!
Christian Schalesky
Nominated by Jill SchaleskyCaleb's dad has been an amazing father from Day 1. Bringing food to me daily while in the NICU with Caleb, and getting our home nice for our arrival. Helping late nights when Caleb wouldn't sleep, so I could get some rest. Standing by me as we found our parenting path and defending it to family and friends when needed, and as it changed. Now, teaching Caleb about sports, superheroes, and nature among other things. Instead of buying something for himself on his b-day, he bought something for Caleb and me. He comes home early from work on the nights he has night meetings, so that he can spend some time with his son each day. He comes home from working long hours to play with Caleb, so I can make dinner. Then, he bathes, PJS, reads to, and prays with Caleb every night he doesn't have to work. Finally, he does the dishes every night, and the folding. He helps clean the house on the weekends. He is kind, goofy, playful, creative, and patient. He is consistent, enforces boundaries, and commands respect. He does all of this happily, while working a very demanding job with long hours, and he does it all because he loves Caleb and me so much. He is our Dad of the Year all the time, and we hope he is The Dad of the Year this year.
Claron Ridge
Nominated by Amanda RidgeClaron's contributions to his daughter are beyond words. He is loving, caring, giving, selfless and an excellent example. He is always patient, both with her and I. When I decided to leave a six figure job and cut our income by 4/5ths, he encouraged me! He has never complained, ever, about this decision that I know has placed so much more on his shoulders. Overall, Claron should be recognized for the sheer amount of love that he channels into our family. It is truly amazing to watch his tender, devoted way with his child.
David Ball
Nominated by Rebecca BallI nominate my husband because he is the most supportive husband and involved dad that I know. From the very beginning of our children's lives, he has been a nurturer and a full partner. Our kids are 18 months apart. He has changed diapers, taken night feedings, walked colicky babies for hours, and helped with everything. He has changed his work schedule several times. He took the kids to the store by himself when they were six months and two! At 5 and 3 1/2, our kids love their father for the wonderful dad things and also for the nurturing.
David Litman
Nominated by Christina LitmanWINNER My best friend, husband and father of my children is the most loving man I have ever known. He worked full time, while getting his master's degree while being emotionally there for me through two pregnancies. He has financially supported us while I stayed home with our kids for years. He supported me through the worst postpartum depression. He has decided to reinvent himself in his career after being let go from Countrywide mortgage this year. Instead of being depressed he became so excited to be able to be more available for his family. This has been no easy task for him, but he is courageous. He has been a Big Brother, a parent educator, and he shows up at our kids school to help in the classroom on a weekly basis. He is committed to teaching his kids and others nonviolent communication practices. He is committed to leaving this world a better place. For this and so much more We Love You David Daddy!!!
David Selby
Nominated by Lacy SelbyMy husband, Dave, is the most committed, selfless father I know. Our son is an early bird and Dave gets up before work at 6 am and reads stories and makes him breakfast so I can have more sleep. He gets up with him in the middle of the night. He comes home at 5 and before doing anything gives him a big hug and plays chase with him when I know how tired he is. He even makes dinners and cleans up many nights and handles the bath routine and never complains. On the weekends he makes sure he sees his grandmother. I know how much he misses karate and hiking but he never even mentions it. I am with my son full time during the week and am so grateful for a husband who has such a passion for fatherhood. He was definitely worth the wait and I want him to know how lucky I know I am.
Holger Peters
Nominated by Wendy PetersWINNER Holger, who came to California from Germany, is celebrating 9 years living in Santa Barbara. Of those 9 years, half of that time has been spent being an amazing father to Noah. Besides all the "regular" cool dad stuff like reading to Noah every night (in utero too), being silly and fun, entertaining, affectionate, and loving, he has done the "regular" cool mom stuff too; all the grocery shopping and cooking (amazing chef), party planning, organizing and cleaning the house, socializing, entertaining guests (adults and children alike). He is easy-going, tireless, immensely patient, and is really funny (in two languages). Here is Noah's response to his favorite things about his Papa, "I like to give him hugs. I love him. I like to play with him."
Jamie Steidl
Nominated by Ashley SteidlMy dad is special because he takes time off work to be with me and my sisters. We go hiking, biking and sailing. We go to the beach in the summers and surf. We love a lot of the same things. He and I like to bake and garden together. He makes the BEST breakfasts every weekend! He helps us take care of our bunnies. He helps with our computers and with downloading songs for our iPods. I love my dad because he is mine and he is special.
Jerry
Nominated by Jackie Waltersmy daddy is the most wonderful man ever! hes so amazing..whenever theres a problem in the house or just my own problems all i have to do is sit with him and everything is better. he went through hell with my mother being so ill he sat through the toughest night and worked so hard through the days my dad is the only brightness in my life that never burns out.he brightens my world when hes with me..and always wants me happy and he does anything in his power to be sure. we do little things together but there HUGE to us because doing anything with my dad is amazing. hes never given up on this family..when i know for a fact every other man would ..NO MAN would put up with the things my farther has. me and my dad have an incredible relationship. being with my dad is like heaven on earth. daddy I'd be nothing with out you..and no where near as close to the young women that i am now!
Jim Satzinger
Nominated by Jack SatzingerWhen I think about my childhood, what comes to my mind is watching Monday night football with my dad, or the satisfaction of pretending to hit a home run in my backyard. When I ponder my future all that matters to me is becoming half of the father my dad has been to me. I have the best father in the world because whenever I am in his presence I have fun, but at the same time he shows the qualities of a true role model.
Joaquin
Nominated by Joaquin Fathers, are somewhat under appreciated in American society. My own father has not only strived economically, he has gained respect from mostly everyone he knows, and has been a great father. He has been able to wander through my intricate thoughts and and understand them. He understands me and the principles I stand upon. He has supported me, taught me lessons, and has provided me with everything in life. There is never a struggle for him, as he always sees a way around it. My father is the elite of all fathers, for he has demonstrated love, he has depicted that fame, fortune, and "coolness" do not matter once one succeeds in what one loves and once one has quieted people that were once doubtful.
John DeAlba
Nominated by MariaJohn is a 22 year old student baseball athlete at (JUNIOR) UCSB. He is also the father of five children; we had our first daughter when he was just a sophomore in high school. Ever since then John has worked so hard to keep his grades at level, and has had an amazing career in baseball. In between homework, baseball practice and games, John is changing diapers, helping his boys with school projects, washing dishes, folding toddler underwear, and being a wonderful and loving husband. John is very quiet and shy. He has received numerous awards for his talented abilities and he deserves so much more. We are a poor family but very rich in peace and love. John would do anything to help anybody in need. He always gives clothes, food, and sometimes any money he has in his pocket to homeless people. He is extremely caring and has many people who love and support him. John always manges to find time to take all of us on trips to Red Rock, the beach, and he always makes time for ice cream. John deserves to be dad of the year! John had the most beautiful article written about him in the Santa Barbara News press in 2007, and you can look up that archive at the Santa Barbara News press.com website; I believe it's under the date May 11, 2007. Please read it- it's so worth it. We have three boys and two girls... and they love him dearly too!
John Foran
Nominated by Kum-Kum BhavnaniSoccer "mom", Swimming "coach", Stand-up comic when we need cheering up, Kindest voice and touch when we are sad, Explains politics when we need to know, Calls for pizza when friends are over, Bedtime book reader when we need to relax, Patient when we get mad, Makes sure the house is tidy, Brings mum her cups of tea in bed, Shows the children how to be decent, compassionate, and considerate, And, did we tell you? he also has a full-time job outside the home! We LOVE Dad!
John Richards
Nominated by Shelly RichardsI would like to nominate my husband as the best father, because even though he is not the father of my two first children, he has cared for them as if they were - to the point that before we got married my children asked him if it was alright to call him "Dad." My ex-husband was not part of my children's lives for about a year and a half, and my children missed the father figure in their lives. Johnny gave them lots of love and time that their real father didn't. Now we have 2 children of our own and things are still the same, my children get 100 kisses at night before he put them to bed. If you ask my children who deserved the father of the year award they say " dad, Johnny, not my real dad" My children are loved by my husband and are cared for so to me a dad is who cares, plays, stays up when the child is sick, and attends school plays, not the sperm donor.
Jon Ford
Nominated by Tara Haaland-FordI don't know that words can explain what an amazing dad Jon is two his two little girls Madison, 3 and Lucy 1. He does it all. I would call him a super dad. He cooks, he cleans and changes lots and lots of diapers. He goes to play dates, Kindermusik, and birthday parties. He has a schedule that allows him to play a tremendous part in their lives. He makes his family a priority over all else. Everyday he is with the girls is an adventure whether it be swimming, at the park, at the beach, at the museum or just gardening in the backyard. I could not ask for a better husband or father. Without his support and involvement with our girls I would not be able to run my law practice or be involved in supporting the youth of our community. We truly are blessed as a family.
Juan Jose Rincon
Nominated by Ana Itzel & Kelsey LopezWell, our dad is the best in the whole world, because he is not our biological dad, but has been taking care of us since our biological dad abandoned us. He takes good care of us. He is always making sure that we are doing good in school, and we always get a lot of presents for Christmas and our birthdays. He is also good and kind with us and my mom. For all and many other reasons he is the best Dad in the whole world.
Louis Pisacane
Nominated by Kellen & Ethan PisacaneMy dad plays catch with me. I can catch a fastball. He plays with me and helps at all my sports. My dad is the best dad. -Kellen
The best thing about my dad is he goes to work. He is smart. He can play expert Guitar Hero and I love my dad. -Ethan
Mark Harris
Nominated by Eli HarrisMy father, Mark Harris, is worthy of the Dad of the Year award. The deep relationships and eternal bonds he provides are a source of comfort to our family. His affectionate nature has become a necessity of all who are close to him. My dad's ability to persevere despite major difficulties is what makes him remarkable. Mark has an inexplicable commitment to excellence and assists others in achieving the best. His desire for justice, and his strong morals define the lifestyle he chooses. Enriching the lives of all surrounding him, my father deserves the title of Dad of the Year.
Paul Grafton
Nominated by Kyla GraftonAs Education Director of the Outdoor School, my husband Paul's job is to ensure the safety and welfare of other people's kids. You might think he had nothing left to give after coming home from 150 6th graders. But instead every free moment he has is spent with our 17 month old son, Odin. No matter how stressful his 50+ hour work week can be, Paul always has time for a game of chase or a tickle fest. He often comes home during Odin's most active time just to steal a few moments with him before heading back to work. They ritualize every morning together by saying "hello to the day" with Paul giving Odin a fresh diaper, a bottle and a kiss and a cuddle. They say good-bye to the day every evening together with a bath, a story and a couple of guitar songs. I have walked in on them taking a bubble bath together both splashing wildly in the tub . In addition to being a fun and loving dad, Paul is a very intuitive father. Odin's birth was stressful and traumatic and the first 6 months of his life challenging. Paul often knew what was wrong well before I did. I would not have made it through that labyrinth without his insight and humor. I think becoming a father has also made Paul into a more dedicated director. If Odin was away at Outdoor School he would want someone watching out for his son.
Pavel Kozachuk
Nominated by Filipp KozachukMy dad works 6 days a week, from 7 in the morning to often 10 at night. I rarely see him, yet he can provide me with a wonderful lifestyle. I have learned to respect him because of his determination to be able to provide for his family. He should be chosen as the dad of the year because of his determination to serve and provide for his family, even though he rarely sees them. My dad deserves this title because he does not expect anything in return for his loving willingness to serve. I love you!
Robert Galle
Nominated by Karrinne GalleMy reason for nominating Robert is because he is a great Dad to his two children. He always makes time for them even when he comes home tired from a hard day's work. Robert cooks very good and healthy gourmet meals with lots of vegetables for our family every night. His family always comes first! He always spends his weekends doing fun activities outdoors with the family. Our family is blessed by his patience, kindness, kindred spirit and positive attitude!
Stephen Spalinger
Nominated by Patricia SpalingerSteve changes diapers proudly, gets up at all hours with our 2 kids, he takes them to the park and to the beach and even helps deliver papers so I can be home with them during the day before going to a 9 hour day at work. He cooks dinner and feeds the kids every night and then puts them to bed. When one of them is fussy he lets them climb into bed and snuggle with him and even though he is exhausted on the weekends he takes the kids so I can get sleep or time to myself.
Steve Marasciullo
Nominated by Stephanie MarasciulloSteve makes his son Patrick the priority in his life. He rides bikes or runs to school with him every morning. He sings Patrick to sleep every evening. If he has to work late he will leave the job to go home so that he can read with Patrick and sing him to sleep before returning to work. He is a great teacher who loves doing projects with his son. They're currently building a tree house together. He is always thinking about how to be a better parent, how to best communicate with Patrick and how to lead by example. Steve loves taking Patrick camping and spending time outdoors with him teaching him about nature and instilling a love of the outdoors in him. He is a devoted father and husband and gives our family great stability and lots of love.
Tony Hill
Nominated by Shanda HillWINNER My husband is the greatest dad to our 3 children for many reasons but here are just a few. Tony makes being with our children a priority, even when stressed or tired he gives 200% of intentional time. I often tease friends that no one can compete with having the greatest husband because I do. He saves lives as a fire captain with the Venture City Fire Dept., he built our family a beautiful house using his days off, he loves cooking and creating amazing dinners, and truly enjoys finding individual things to do with each of our children. He is my best friend and I could not be more proud and thankful for the man the Lord brought to me as a soul mate. He is such a great example to our children and a good man. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to gush about him.
Vladimir Kovalchuk
Nominated by Olga KovalchukAlthough he can be strict at times, he is still the best father in the world. When I have done something wrong, I know I should be punished for it, but my dad, he goes easy on me, just tells me what I should have done, because you cannot change the past, he says. He always has a word or two to start a conversation rolling. His intentions are to make things peaceful, to make my brother and me feel loved. He knows how and when to be strict, he knows everything, and that is what I admire him for.

Annie Fischer
Nominated by Katie Fischer- RodriguezMy mother is truly the most amazing person I know. She is a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. Since having my baby in April, my husband and I have looked to my mother for help and guidance in raising our son. By example and through her unwavering support she has taught us to trust ourselves and our instincts. She also teaches 15 pre-kindergarteners everyday. She puts her all into ensuring that each student succeeds and grows. She loves teaching in Room 3 and her students are one of the biggest joys in her life.
Barbara Cronin
Nominated by Nancy HenricksonWINNER (Kellogg) Mrs. Cronin is a fascinating woman. She is a 4th grade teacher at Kellogg School and my daughter has learned so much from her. Mrs. Cronin has unique and creative methods in teaching the fundamentals. She makes every lesson FUN and interesting. Not only does Mrs. Cronin fit in the academic curriculum required of her she thinks out of the box constantly, teaching the children about life lessons and community service. Mrs. Cronin recently coordinated a fund raiser to sell herb plants with her class to raise money to buy blankets for the K-9 pals. She took the time to talk to local nurseries to purchase the herbs and soil at a discounted price. Coordinated the pots and made time for her class to design tags, decorate the pots and to schedule the sale of the herbs after school. This was an amazing lesson especially during the holidays. She did not have to spend the extra time and money to coordinate such a project but she did and this will be a memory that my daughter will cherish. I also would like to mention Mrs. Cronin takes the time to hold workshops to share her ideas with other local teachers. I have a friend who is a teacher and adores Mrs. Cronin because of what she has taught her. Mrs. Cronin is recognized as a brilliant teacher from her colleagues, students and parents. We are so lucky to have Mrs. Cronin as part of our education community.
Barbara Cronin_
Nominated by Edilene Janotti(Kellogg) She is a 4th Grade Teacher that works with dedication and see the kids potential and help them to be the best that they can. All with love, respect and a smile.
Barbara Cronin__
Nominated by Emma Cruz(Kellogg School) Mrs. Cronin was my daughter's Kindergarten teacher back in 2003 and is currently her 4th grade teacher now. Mrs. Cronin is one of the best teachers I have ever met. Back in 2003 when she was my daughter's kindergarten teacher she was amazing especially for a parent dropping her first daughter off at school. Her patience and treatment of the young children was unmatched. My daughter came home with such wonderful stories of her amazing teacher. When it was time for my daughter to be in fourth grade. Mrs. Cronin was moved to teach fourth grade I was extremely excited and I requested her. I believe it is her teaching skills and personable nature that makes my daughter love school. She hates having a holiday in the week. I attribute this to the wonderful Mrs. Cronin.

Nominated by Julie Hagen(Kellogg) Barbara Cronin is a wonderful teacher. Both of my girls have had her as their teacher and both had a great experience in her class. Barbara creates a very effective learning environment. She has fun teaching the children and it is reflected in the classroom every day by just looking at the children having fun while they are learning.
Barbara Cronin____
Nominated by Max Anhalt(Kellogg School) I am nominating Mrs. Cronin for Teacher of the Year. I can tell Mrs. Cronin likes to be a teacher. She is always nice to all of her students and is encouraging to all of us and really helpful to the students who don't speak English very well. She sometimes has to remind me to finish my work or to do my best and I'm glad she tells me because sometimes I forget. I can tell she really likes the stories I write. 4th grade has been my best year ever in school because of Mrs. Cronin.
Barbara Cronin_____
Nominated by Melissa Frank(Kellogg) My son, Jordan has autism. He is a student in Barbara's 4th grade class at Kellogg School. What's special about that is that he is her student, not special ed, not someone else's responsibility... she cares, is highly motivated and wants to see Jordan reach his potential, even though that may not be what her other 4th graders are doing. It is very refreshing and inspiring to see Barbara make a connection with not only my child, but all of the children in her class. She definitely deserves this recognition, not only from the children she has this year, but from the one's who have been so fortunate to have called her teacher in the past.
Barbara Cronin______
Nominated by Sandy Thoits(Kellogg) My daughter is in Mrs. Cronin's 4th grade class at Kellogg School. I am impressed every day about the teaching skills and compassion which Mrs. Cronin brings to the classroom. She is able to relate to every child individually, yet teach teamwork to the kids. The students work wonderfully in groups and also on their own. Mrs. Cronin asked the class if they wanted to give back to the community by selling herb plants as a fundraiser to support K9 Pals, at the animal shelter. The class loved this project and learned about the positive impact they can make as children. Many of the students (including my daughter) held their own toy sales and lemonade stands and contributed the proceeds toward the class fundraiser. Mrs. Cronin has instilled these 9 year olds with a sense of caring that they will carry with them through their lives.

Beth has really impressed and touched me with her compassion and dedication to my daughter and helping her learn and be just another one of the great children in that class, speech impediment or not. My family is so lucky to have Beth as my daughter's teacher, guide, and friend.
Bill Woodard
Nominated by Lindsay Woodard(Dos Pueblos High School) Even if he weren't my husband, I would--without a doubt--have to nominate Bill Woodard as teacher of the year. He is a ninth grade and AP English teacher at Dos Pueblos High School. Not only did he step up to take over the Mock Trial team this year, but he also volunteered to give up his only preparation period to take an extra section of AP English so that twenty or so students wouldn't be forced into a lower, less-challenging level of English. The paper load is overwhelming for any English teacher, but to so graciously take on more work--and to do so without any preparation time--is truly a selfless act. His students are extremely lucky to have him, and I'm proud to be his wife.

Jason Nam
Nominated by Christina FavuzziMy first impressions of Jason Nam were how young yet articulate and professional a music teacher he was. I introduced myself with a fresh personality, expressing my enthusiasm for band as I entered eighth grade at La Colina. Little did I know that he would become my inspiration as my knowledge and passion for music fervently increased. His tenacity amazes me as his job remains in peril due to the school district's budget cuts. What a tragedy it would be if he were unable to share the knowledge that stimulated our band.
