Santa Barbara residents can capture and use rainwater with rain barrels being offered for purchase via Santa Barbara County's one-day-only sale on Saturday, November 21st. This second event was planned due to the overwhelming response to the first sale in September. By using rain barrels to capture rainwater for landscape irrigation, residents will not only decrease demand on the municipal water supply but also help prevent water pollution by reducing runoff.
The rain barrel sale will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday November 21st at Santa Barbara City College Parking Lot #3, at the corner of Shoreline Drive and Loma Alta Drive in Santa Barbara.
The SYSTERN Rain Barrels, which retail for more than $120.00, will be available for only $50.00, including tax, while supplies last on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment must be by cash or check only.
For more information please visit www.sbwater.org/rainbarrel.

Debbie Miles-Dutton of the UCSB Junior Lifeguards wrote, "He was the driving force behind so many programs that served and supported children in our community. Rob was a veteran State Beach Lifeguard, the Refugio Jr. Guard Coordinator, our own UCSB Jr. Guard Coordinator, a swimming and water polo instructor & coach for both UCSB students and local youth as well as the "Grand Master" of the GUSD 3rd Grade swim lesson program. Internationally renowned pioneer of film and video art Diana Thater creates what she describes as "sculpture with images of nature in space." Phenomena of the natural world are recurring motifs for the artist, whose site-specific video and light installations explore the relationship between beauty and technology, and nature and the way it is mediated through human intervention. Two major works are the focus of this compelling exhibition, including Untitled Videowall (Butterflies) (2008), which stems from the Monarch Butterfly Project, the artist's response to a call by curators, collectors and environmentalists to draw attention to encroachments upon the species' winter home in Michoacán, Mexico. The Museum debut of this work coincides with the arrival of the Monarchs on the central coast during their annual migration.

During the kick-a-thon students and staff of Martial Arts Family Fitness will have an opportunity to kick for three minutes and raise money for AHA! through either "per-kick" or "flat" pledges. "We have already received commitments from local business and individuals. We have also received pledges from people in Sacramento, Memphis, New York and Washington, DC," added Mr. Wheaton. "We feel strongly about what AHA! is doing and contributing to the overall wellbeing of our community, and encourage others in Santa Barbara to do what they can to support our community's youth."
"This year we partnered with AHA! because of the work they do with teens," added Lori Kibbie, MAFF's program director. "Last year our Kick-A-Thon benefited Domestic Violence Solutions, and the year before it was St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Our students and their families really want to help, and this is a great opportunity for them to practice some of the core principles we teach at Martial Arts Family Fitness."
