Date: 12/02/2009 at 7:00pm
Ages: all Admission Fees: $3 for students and $5 for adults
Special Instructions: all proceeds will go to El Camino Elementary School for their Technology programs

Storyteller Michael Katz will perform a benefit at the Goleta Community Center on December 2, 2009 at 7 pm. Tickets will be $3 for students and $5 for adults; all proceeds will go to El Camino Elementary School for their Technology programs.  The audience is encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on and kids you may wear your pajamas, there will be hot cocoa, baked goodies for sale and even great raffle items.

Budget cuts have forced schools to be aggressive in their fundraising so the students don't miss out. El Camino PTA is hosting this fundraiser in hopes of raising enough to purchase additional A/V and computer equipment for each classroom.

Michael Katz has been a storyteller since 1984 and has been featured at such illustrious locations as the openings of both the Los Angeles Getty Center and the Disney Concert Hall. He is one of the founding members of the national touring theatre company BOXTALES, and was the founding Artistic Director for the Flying Leap Storytelling Festival in Solvang, California. His performance at the Community Center - "Something Old and Something New" Storytelling with Michael Katz will be an evening to remember! Pre-sale tickets will be available in the office at El Camino School 5020 San Simeon Drive, Santa Barbara, CA 93111 or at the door the night of the performance.

Eclectic, inventive, anti-conformist... these are just a few of the widespread characterizations of artists who have lived and worked in the richest, most diverse, and most populous region in the United States since the end of World War II. California Calling is a two-part exhibition highlighting works from a selection of artists and movements in California from the past sixty years. Drawn from the Museum's permanent collection and selected local collections, works included exemplify the distinctive vitality of art in the region and the significance of the SBMA as a venue for art on the West Coast.

Santa Barbara Muesum of Art
Date: Every day (Oct 28-Feb 2) from 11:00am to 5:00pm
Ages: All Admission Fees: $9 adults, $6 seniors, students with ID and children ages 6-17. Free on Sunday
Special Instructions: Closed Monday. Open Tuesday-Sunday `11 am. to 5: pm.

Internationally renowned pioneer of film and video art Diana Thater creates what she describes as "sculpture with images of nature in space." Phenomena of the natural world are recurring motifs for the artist, whose site-specific video and light installations explore the relationship between beauty and technology, and nature and the way it is mediated through human intervention. Two major works are the focus of this compelling exhibition, including Untitled Videowall (Butterflies) (2008), which stems from the Monarch Butterfly Project, the artist's response to a call by curators, collectors and environmentalists to draw attention to encroachments upon the species' winter home in Michoacán, Mexico. The Museum debut of this work coincides with the arrival of the Monarchs on the central coast during their annual migration.
