Community Christmas Carol Sing-along & Wassail Party

A holiday favorite for twenty-six years, the Community Carol Sing-along & Wassail Party welcomes the community to join voices in singing favorite and new carols interspersed with the poetry of Diane Wyman. The wassailing procession leads to the party and and more carols by the fireside.

Free Holiday Light Exchange - Turn in your old lights for more efficient and longer lasting LED lights

All Southern California Edison residential customers are invited to participate in the South County Energy Efficiency Partnership's (SCEEP) Holiday Light Exchange. Bring your old holiday lights to exchange for one strand of LED lights which use up to 90% less energy than incandescent bulbs. LED lights are safer and can last up to 10 times longer.

Supplies are limited. For availability or other questions, please visit www.sceep.org.

When: November 30th - December 20th while supplies last. Times vary by location.

If you ever wanted to check out the Learningden here is your chance. If you have last minute shopping to do or just need to de stress and have a date night, bring your kids for a fun filled evening. Potty training not required and Pizza and nutritious snacks will be provided.

Diana Thater Exhibition

Internationally renowned pioneer of film and video art Diana Thater creates what she describes as "sculpture with images of nature in space." Phenomena of the natural world are recurring motifs for the artist, whose site-specific video and light installations explore the relationship between beauty and technology, and nature and the way it is mediated through human intervention. Two major works are the focus of this compelling exhibition, including Untitled Videowall (Butterflies) (2008), which stems from the Monarch Butterfly Project, the artist's response to a call by curators, collectors and environmentalists to draw attention to encroachments upon the species' winter home in Michoacán, Mexico. The Museum debut of this work coincides with the arrival of the Monarchs on the central coast during their annual migration.

Eclectic, inventive, anti-conformist... these are just a few of the widespread characterizations of artists who have lived and worked in the richest, most diverse, and most populous region in the United States since the end of World War II. California Calling is a two-part exhibition highlighting works from a selection of artists and movements in California from the past sixty years. Drawn from the Museum's permanent collection and selected local collections, works included exemplify the distinctive vitality of art in the region and the significance of the SBMA as a venue for art on the West Coast.

17th Annual Candy Cane Train runs each afternoon!

The 17th Annual "Candy Cane Train," a popular year-end event at the South Coast Railroad Museum, will open Friday, Nov. 27 and continue through Tuesday, Dec. 24. The event runs daily during this period, except for Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 7, 8, 14, and 15, when the museum will be closed.

 

Hours for the event are 1 to 4 p.m. each day. In order to take part in all Candy Cane Train activities, event attendees are urged to arrive not later than 3:30 p.m. Event tickets are $3.50 (adult or child). Ticket-holders each receive a ride on the museum's festively-decorated miniature-train, a candy cane, and holiday favors, plus a coupon good for a future ride on the museum train. Additional Candy Cane train rides will be available for $1.50 each. All miniature-train riders must meet the 34-inch minimum-height requirement.

Tickets may be purchased at the museum during event hours. Admission to the railroad museum is by donation; a $1 donation is suggested for adult visitors. Candy Cane Train attendees will also be able to view the museum's festive holiday display, "Toy Trains and Teddy Bears!" which also opens Nov. 27. The display features objects from the museum's collections and keepsakes shared by members of the museum family.

This musical saga of enchantment and mystery brings us through the wardrobe into C.S. Lewis' Narnia, a land of deep magic in which the Pevensie children face the fearsome White Witch and embrace the great heart of Aslan. Parents Night Out

Wouldn't it be great to have a free night for dinner or a movie? Your children will have a great time in a safe, fun environment with our trained child care staff. Dinner and healthy snacks are provided while children partake in themed games, activities, swimming (for ages 5 and up), playing in Kids' Gym, and a movie! Parent's Night Out is offered every third Friday of the month for children ages 3-12 (must be potty trained).

Passport to Santa Barbara County
Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum
Elementary students and adults can visit us free with their Passport!

Children in kindergarten to sixth grade are invited to the Contemporary Art Forum (CAF) with an accompanying adult free of admission when they present a Passport to Santa Barbara County booklet. Collect a stamp in your passport booklet and experience the art of our time through a variety of art activities, as part of the Santa Barbara Educators Roundtable (SBERT) Passport to Santa Barbara County program. Children who collect eight stamps will receive a free T-shirt. Passport booklets with a list of participating institutions are available through Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Goleta, and Santa Ynez Valley elementary schools, at participating institutions, and from the Santa Barbara Public Libraries.

Parent Support Group
PEP (Postpartum Education for Parents)
Connect with other parents with children the same age and stage as your own!
Date: Every Fri from 10:00am to 11:30am
Ages: Parents with newborns

Meet with new parents like yourselves to share stories, learn new things, and make new friends with families with same age children. New groups begin every 3 months, offering an opportunity to meet parents with babies the same age as yours. It's a time to share experiences and derive support from one another. The groups are open and can be attended at any time. You do not need to wait for the next group to start.

For parents of newborns 0-5 months: This New Parent Discussion Group meets every friday at ONE Consignment Store. After the initial 12 weeks, parents continue to meet weekly, ususally at a park or at each others homes.
